x A special focus of the research is the National Socialist time, during which homosexuals were persecuted with unprecedented brutality and were killed thousandfold in concentration camps. In order to inform the public, the association does a lot of research and documentation, creates subject related publications and arranges exhibitions and educational events. Additionally, the realisation of self-organised work and the support of foreign research about the history of homosexuals and the discrimination against them is accomplished by the associations.. x The archive has existed since 1980 and has the goal to provide material for the homosexual movement, for homosexual emancipation and for other interested people. x The main fields of work include research, publications and lectures, archive, library, exhibitions and guidance of gay-lesbian town promenades. x Namensprojekt (Nameproject): Since 1987 persecuted homosexuals of National Socialism are registered by name. x Following the guiding principle “Arbeit für den Frieden – Erinnern für die Zukunft (working for peace – remembering for the future), the German War Graves Commission runs independent youth and schoolwork, the only war graves commission who does in the world. The goal is to sensitize adolescents for peace and democracy, for the social cohesion of the society, for a tolerant and intercultural understanding, for an international understanding and for the respect of human rights. Taking the victims of war and tyranny as a starting point, the commission offers a multitude of peace pedagogical projects for students: On-location exploration of the local war graves, acquiring history and memorial plaques on selected locations including all groups of war victims, campaigns for the international peace day of the UN, seeking historical and political traces in the exhibition “Der Zweite Weltkrieg in Niedersachsen” (The Second World War in Lower Saxony) and “Was heißt hier Frieden” (What does peace mean in this context) , participation in an up-to-date organisation of the Remembrance Day, student body seminars, memorial tours as well as school project tours to the five international youth clubs of the commission in Europe. X continuation course offerings for teachers include information tours to the youth clubs and seminars about up-to-date topics of peace education and memory studies. In the future the network work and groups and institutions engaged in memorial and remembrance work will take over a greater role in the work of the commission Hanover. This engagement ensures a necessary and useful contextualisation of ones owns memory work. x target groups: especially students, teachers of schools and vocational schools
